Through this valley flows the Platani River!
Situated on the southern slope of Mount Calvario, Cianciana was founded by Antonino Giuseppe Ioppolo in 1640, with ‘licentia populandi’ granted by his mother Sigismonda.
The view of the valley through which the Platani River flows is a riot of colours, with beautiful old trees, golden wheat fields, and gorgeous vineyards. The low-lying areas of the valley are used for producing Mediterranean vegetables while the higher altitude areas are thickly forested with tall trees. These areas provide one with some interesting trekking options, and an option to enjoy the nature in all its splendour from up close.
